Lat Long to OS Grid iconLat Long to OS Grid banner text
This app takes a given Latitude and Longitude coordinate, in either degree or decimal format, and converts it into an Ordnance Survey grid reference, in either numerical or letter format.

The app also translates backwards, meaning it can convert an OS grid reference to a Latitude and Longitude.

If you have your location enabled, the app can get your smartphone's current Latitude and Longitude coordinate and tell you where in the Ordnance Survey grid you are!

Elevens iconElevens banner text

Elevens is a fun single-player card game that involves choosing two non face cards that add up to eleven, or a Jack, a Queen and a King.

The aim of the game is to get rid of all the cards in the deck. You start with two cards face up and seven face down. From then, you can tap the deal button or a face down card to deal a new card. You may have a maximum of nine cards face up at once.

Tap cards to select them and try to make pairs from non-face cards that add up to eleven, with Aces counting as ones. Examples include 7/4, 6/5, 8/3.

Face cards are unique as they can't be paired with non-face cards, but can be selected as a group of three unique face cards (a Jack, Queen and King).

When you select a successful pair or trilogy of cards, they will be replaced with cards from the deck. Try to empty the deck but don't run out of options, if there are no more moves to make then you lose the game.

And be quick, the timer is running!

The NYS Events app is part of an event management system used during North Yorkshire Scouts County events. This app allows Scout leaders on events, such as county camps, to access camp information easily. This includes details like catering timetables, risk assessments, site maps and more. It also allows the event team to send out notifications to leaders which helps spread important information quickly.

The app also allows leaders to report any incidents straight to event staff. This means staff are able to quickly triage reports that come in to do with first aid, safeguarding, etc and allocate them to the relevant team to deal with.

One aspect of the app that I am particularly proud of is lost property. As lost property is handed in, a member of staff can take a picture and add it to the system. This means any leader will be able to see lost property that has not got a name on, and any lost property that does have a name on and belongs to a member of their group.

When a piece of lost property is added to the system and its owner has been identified, the leader of that scout's group will get a notification informing them that the lost property has been handed in. This is especially handy as it results in less lost property clogging up the welcome desk on event.

Escape is a catch and evade style wide-game across the North Yorkshire countryside. Teams of between four and seven Explorers - 'Escapers' - are given 24 hours to navigate between set checkpoints. Simultaneously, they are evading teams of Catchers, who comprise Network and adult Scouting Leaders.

When an Escaper team has been caught, they generate a QR code through the app that their Catchers scan which allows them to submit the details of their catch. Manual catch entry is also available in case there is a problem with the QR code/the Escapers' phones. Details that are submitted include the group's location and their conditions (Good, Okay, Needs watching, Dropped out)
